There is nothing better than heading off on your own or with a friend or two to score some suds. Maybe it was a little more exciting when we were still under twenty one, skirting the law and testing our fakes, while scoring some beer. But, the beer run is something special, whether it is down to the corner store for a couple tall boys or across the state line for a couple kegs and lower taxes. But this beer run, from the Bronx to Vietnam during the police action, might just take the cake.
As a fellow merchant mariner, I am not surprised that Chickie was able to make it, in the middle of a war, to his friends spread all over South Vietnam. After all, he was tasked with delivering a few beers; nothing is going to stop a sailor on such an important mission.
